Pictured: Trump’s twitter feed in human form
As the last month of the campaign rolls into view, Trump is ratcheting up the fascism.
There was something else in Trump’s ludicrous statement about how losing a billion dollars is a sign of genius that would normally get play, but is glossed over in a rush to get to the net stupid part. It’s the opening sentence.
The only news here is that the more than 20-year-old alleged tax document was illegally obtained, a further demonstration that the New York Times, like establishment media in general, is an extension of the Clinton Campaign, the Democratic Party and their global special interests.
OK, so, yes, it is a weird and abrupt opening, and yes, it is pretty normal Republican spin that anything story making them look bad is a form of bias (even one that I guess reveals the subject to be a genius, but I’m not going to tell them how do deal with pathological cognitive dissonance). This goes a little further, in alleging illegality (i.e. journalism), and the campaign is threatening to sue, because that’s what Trumps do when their feeling are hurt. But it is the end that interests me the most.
“…Clinton Campaign, the Democratic Party and their global special interests.”
Global special interests. That’s an…odd phrase, inartful and inelegant, but to think it is a throwaway is to miss the gathering storm of the Trump campaign. The isolationism and the protectionism and the outright xenophobic racism are all part of the same picture: it’s a hateful retrenchment, and an American mirror to the fascist movements of the 20s and 30s.
“Global special interests” is part and parcel of that, and not at all subtle. It is more than just an anti-free-trade argument, or “Trump’s message of economic populism to the dispossessed.” It’s sheer conspiracy talk, tinged with latent anti-Semitism. It’s why he’s a hero to the alt-right. He’s saying what they have always said. There are these “global special interests” controlling everything, taking away our rights, subsuming our heritage into this amoral and decadent race-mixing melting pot. And Hillary is in the middle of that.
That there is a global elite who screw people over to make more money, both in America and the sweatshops of Bangladesh, gives ammo to his ideas. It is a serious problem that needs to be dealt with, and is possible to do so. But that’s not what’s he’s saying. He’s speaking the language of blood and soil, and rallying the troops against the sulphurous and hook-nosed vampires who are taking away our national interests. He’s saying that the only way he’ll lose is if it’s rigged. The election is a month away, but the sharpening of his attacks and the latent paranoia of his ignorance means that the real nightmare may just be beginning.
